Text About It Milestone - 200,000 Conversations
Text About It Milestone
This year, trained Text About It volunteers engaged in 200,000 conversations with texters, highlighting the significant demand for our anonymous, non-judgmental, 24/7 service. Feedback reveals that 86 percent of texters found their conversations with volunteers helpful, and many reported that these discussions encouraged them to follow through on plans to improve their well-being. Over half of the texters consistently shared feelings or experiences they had never discussed with anyone before.
We all face barriers to talking about certain feelings and experiences, whether that’s because of embarrassment, discomfort speaking to someone face-to-face, or lack of access to a therapist. Text About It offers a safe and inclusive space for you to share your concerns with a dedicated, well-trained volunteer, no matter how small those concerns might seem.
“Honestly, I was just feeling a bit down. And the volunteer I had really understood which was great. He was easy to talk to and understanding and lifted my mood”
Kat’s experience of reaching out to Text About It
When Kat’s anxiety worsened and she began experiencing suicidal thoughts, she reached out to Text About It. Although she felt unworthy of support and doubted that her life could get any better at the time, she describes speaking to a Text About It volunteer as “one of the first times I probably felt really listened to.” The volunteer did not minimise her experience but instead gave her hope, which Kat found incredibly powerful coming from a stranger.
Kat still doesn’t know the name or identity of the volunteer she spoke to during that difficult time in her life, but she says, “They are genuinely probably my favourite person in the world for all that they did.” Reflecting on her diary entries from before and after contacting Text About It, Kat says they could have been written by “two different people.”
